The Annual Baptist Convention organized it's gathering in New Orleans this year but not without a agenda addressing social and moral issues. The President and Senior Pastor Fred Luter , Jr. spoke on issues concerning trafficking, and the Boy Scouts allowing gays to participate. In addition, topics including the high rate of incarcerations. As far as gays being allowed in the boy scouts the convention leaders chose to leave it up to individual churches to keep present members, and use their own discretion for allowing new gay boy scout leaders and members. The new group of delegates are also calling on more ways to address mental issues. President Luter, Jr. has made a milestone as being the first Black American ever elected over the Baptist Convention was also re-elected on Tuesday, June 11, 2013. Hundreds attend the convention each year.
