Fighting the Good Fight -- Leukemia _ Carol Martin Hicks

Carol is in the fight of her life and needs a bone marrow transplant.... Carol was recently diagnosed with a form of leukemia called "Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia" (ALL).

In bone marrow transplants, the tissue types used to match the patient to the donor are inherited, and for this reason, the patients are most likely to match a donor of their own ethnicity. Adding more donors from various ethnic backgrounds to the "Be The Match Registry" will increase the likelihood for all patients to find a match. Therefore, adding more African American donors to the "Be The Match Registry" will increase the likelihood for Carol to find a match.

The "Be The Match Registry" is comprised of only 7% African-American/Black donors in comparison to other ethnicity groups. Currently, marrow or blood stem cell transplantation is the only potential cure for severe sickle cell disease SCD.

Many have said that donating your blood is the gift of life, and I say that donating your bone marrow is the other gift of life. You can help give the other gift of life as soon as today, by registering to become a bone marrow donor (http://marrow.org/Join/Join_the_Registry.aspx).

If you are unable to or choose not to donate your bone marrow, please consider making a monetary donation.

Friendship Baptist Church (17145 Bastanchury Rd., Yorba Linda, CA 92886) is hosting a bone marrow donor drive on behalf of Carol and to support this worthy cause on Dec 16, 2012, between 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Will you also consider hosting a bone marrow drive at your church during this Christmas season? Your community can support this life saving project.

Now that you've had a few moments to think, will you also consider making February 14th an annual 'Be the Match Day' in your neighborhood (call your local representative at 1-800-MARROW2.)

Your support is needed to save a life...your support is needed to save Carol's life.
TODAY, please consider registering and/or donating via your time or monetarily.
We need your support!!!

Acts 20:35 New International Version (NIV)
35 In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' "
