Serena Williams Wins WTA Championship (542 hits)

Serena Williams finished out the year with another stellar win.

According to ESPN, the tennis star won the WTA Championship for the third time in her career this weekend. She beat Maria Sharapova 6-4, 6-3. Williams said she hates to lose and she's happy she won. "If I'm playing well and doing everything right, it's pretty difficult to beat me, without trying to sound too full of myself," she said.

Now ranked third in the world, Williams revealed it simply felt good to take home another win, "I wanted it so bad, but I didn't want to say it… It was really important to me to end the year with this title in particular."

And what a year it's been for Williams who took home top honors in Wimbledon (her fifth title) and the U.S. Open. Not to forget, she won the gold medal in the Olympics this summer—becoming the second woman in history to win a career Golden Slam. "I had such a good year, it was important to end on a good note," said Williams. "It was good for my sanity to win. I really wanted it although I didn't need it."
