Ladies! Here Are 3 Simple Ways to Get Rid of Jiggly, Wiggly Arms (549 hits)

Oftentimes women ask me “how do I get rid of this?” pointing to the back of their arms. Some women even wiggle their arms for me in order to emphasize the point. I was most amused when a young lady in my weightlifting class asked me how she could get rid of her “jiggly, wiggly” arms. I loved that terminology…so much so that I decided to write a little blog about it.

So what are “jiggly, wiggly” arms? Well, our arms (and legs) are primarily comprised of bone, muscle, and fat tissue. A significant amount of fat tissue is sandwiched between muscle tissue and an external layer of skin (subcutaneous fat). Now, muscle tissue is very dense while fat tissue is not at all dense. As such, when you have excess subcutaneous fat around the muscles in your arms, that area will look flabby. Furthermore, if you have an “apple shape” tending to carry excess fat in your upper-body and abdominal regions, you will more than likely have an appearance of jiggly, wiggly arms (and muffin top) when you gain fat weight. Given these facts, one way to reduce the appearance of jiggly, wiggly arms is to lose this excess fat weight.

Now excess fat is just one part of the equation as muscle atrophy plays a significant role in the appearance of jiggly, wiggly arms. Jiggly, wiggly arms most commonly result from atrophy of the biceps (muscles on the front of the arms) and triceps (muscles on the back of the arms) in addition to the deltoids (muscles of the shoulders). Atrophy of these muscles basically means that they have lost their strength and tone. The main cause of such atrophy is a lack of weight training. Unfortunately, there are a lot of women who just don’t perform weight training of any sort which is why jiggly, wiggly arms is such a common problem. In order to develop strength and tone in your biceps, triceps, and deltoids, you have to engage in regular weight training, plain and simple.

So, now that you have an understanding of what causes the appearance of jiggly, wiggly arms, here are 3 simply ways that you can get rid of them.
