A 95 year old WWII veteran has waited over 60 years to finally be recognized for his act of heroism in saving his life and those of white officers. Carl Clark was finally recognized of his brave act with a honorary medal. Clark in a television interview spoke how he saved the navy ship by putting out fires while on, after attacks at sea. He said that he was thanked, but otherwise never was recognized on any documentation of his service because he was Black. Finally, after his very long wait at age 95 he has received a recognition long waited for and much deserved. Clark said he dedicates the medal to those other Blacks who also gave their lives but never received any kind of honor.

In the naval battles of the Second World War, there were many acts of heroism. But what Carl Clark did wasn’t recognized until Tuesday at Moffett Field. After sixty-six years, he was awarded a medal for distinguished service in combat by Navy Secretary Ray Mabu.
