Honour Killings Go Beyond Mere Homicide

Horrific details of an alleged mass honour killing emerged in a crowded Ontario courtroom last week: Three young sisters and their polygamous father's first wife were murdered in the name of religious purity, according to the Crown prosecutor: A staged car accident, plotted and executed, allegedly by the father, mother and brother of 19-year-old Zainab, 17-year-old Sahar, and 13-year-old Gheeti Shafia, whose reportedly brazen refusal to comply with the traditions imposed on Afghan females so polluted the family's honour that only death could remove its taint.
In the chilling words of the girls' father, Mohammad Shafia, "They betrayed Islam" by consorting with boys, posing seductively for cell phone photographs, and refusing to wear the hijab. "God's curse on them for generations. May the devil (expletive) on their graves. Is that what a daughter should be? Would a daughter be such a whore?" According to the Crown, prior to their deaths, the girls repeatedly sought help from law enforcement and professional service providers, but their cries for help ultimately went unmet. In Western consciousness, honour killings are most frequently associated with poor, developing countries where women are granted few, if any, social and political rights. Yet this alleged quadruple homicide -- apparently the violent manifestation of a deep-seated cultural and religious misogyny, according to the Crown -- took place far from the Shafia family's native Afghanistan.
The bodies of Mr. Shafia's 50-year-old wife, Rona, and his three spirited daughters were found near Kingston, Ontario, floating inside a submerged vehicle in the Rideau Canal. [...] If anything can be taken from the untimely death of the four Shafia women, it is this: honour violence is happening in North America and our institutions need to quickly educate themselves to be able to properly respond to save lives. These girls embrace our culture and expect that we will protect them from the savagery they left behind in their homes countries -- we owe it to them to do no less.
Requirements of becoming a Landed Immigrant in Canada or becoming a Canadian Citizen are: Obeying the law & taking responsibility for oneself and one's family ...
I think people who are not willing to do what the country they immigrate to requires, should think seriously before making a move.
There are plenty of law breakers in Canada as well, but most people don't know much about that because we don't have a whole lot of televisioning as the Canadians have of American media. For now, it sounds like a car wreck especially with the father being the one who pushed the car in the Rideau. Hopefully under Canadian due process, the guy will have his ship sunk like he sunk the car with his loved ones.
I have always admired Sis. Ali's writings...There's no such thing as 'Islamic honor killings' - it's a cultural thing that has Nothing to do with Islam AT ALL. And you cannot find any story in the Holy Qu'ran that condones this practice.
Honour killing is from very backwards people who practice culture and not religion. The people that initiate these honour killings are small in thier minds and ugly in thier hearts!!!

but in the Family of Adaam(as) the taking of life is a MOST terrible crime/sin/transgression against ALL men/women.....
but the Laws of Musa are clear also on this subject, no adultery, no fornication and the Family of Adaam(as) do have LAWS that put to death, male and female Adulterers or Fornicators because they violate the Law against the Family of Adaam(as)

This is horrible. But, me being me, I can respect it is amonge the family and not someone out there killing children who are strangers in their school yards because they are not Christians as a man did to those Quaker female children not too long ago.
And, I say this because, I believe we are all GOD's children and this is why the , "THOU SHALL NOT KILL/ MURDER COMES INTO THE PICTURE...FOR ME. (smile)

@Siebra, what you said is how I look at the thing called , walking the last mile to be executed and always sith someone with you carrying a Bible...but this is also not in teh Bible is it...and it is not a part of our culture to allow freedom of religion is it taht one can go to be murdered with their own religious leader????
