President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Increases Federal Cost Share for North Carolina
WASHINGTON -- FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell announced that President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. made additional disaster assistance available to the state of North Carolina to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by Tropical Storm Helene from Sept. 25, 2024 and continuing.
The President authorized the federal cost-share to be increased from 75% to 100% for the first 180 days of the incident period. The major disaster declaration made federal funding available for Individual Assistance and Public Assistance in designated counties, as well as the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program statewide.
"I came here to Raleigh to receive a briefing from the workers on the ground who I know have been working nonstop to render aid and support. We’re here for you. And we will stay here for as long as it takes."
I’ve directed one thousand military personnel from Fort Liberty to help the North Carolina National Guard provide critical supplies to isolated communities. We’ve deployed 67 Starlink satellites so that folks in places like Canton can call for help and reach their loved ones.
FEMA teams are knocking on doors and visiting shelters to register people for financial assistance. This is direct assistance that is hitting bank accounts as soon as today. And FEMA will continue to send helicopters and trucks to deliver hundreds of thousands of meals and liters of water to communities every day.
Earlier, I took an aerial tour over Western North Carolina to survey the damage. What I saw was heartbreaking. But back on the ground, we’re witnessing neighbors helping neighbors, volunteers and workers standing side-by-side, people leaning on each other. That's America.
