Job Description

The Lynch School Systems Manager is responsible for designing and supporting the technical and operational systems for academic and administrative areas of the Lynch School of Education, including Inquiry and Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Services, Practicum and Induction Experiences, Assessment and Accreditation, as well as course scheduling and course evaluations. The Systems Manager must be able to work both independently and as a team member, and also have the ability to manage project teams.

Responsibilities include managing the software development life cycles and data management processes for the Lynch School, by providing business analysis, programming, and agile project management for key initiatives that support the Lynch School mission and vision. The Systems Manager also provides on-going process improvements, functional support, assistance and maintenance for Lynch School systems; acts as the final level of support for Lynch School users of University systems; and acts as a liaison between the Lynch School user community and Boston College Information Technology Services and vendors, such as FolderWave. Projects include reporting and accountability initiatives, process improvements through automation and the introduction of new technology, development of new systems to meet emerging needs, and partnering with ITS on University-wide endeavors.
Qualifications & Requirements

Requirements

* Advanced degree in computer science or other relevant discipline
* Minimum of five years of technical experience in data modelling, application development and support, requirements analysis, designing and implementing relational databases, and project management
* Ability to identify and understand complex technology challenges and have the ability to collect and synthesize supporting data, present options and recommend solutions
* Ability to maintain data security and confidentiality of all data at all times
* Strong conceptualization ability, strong visual communication ability
* Ability to articulate/ communicate results in a variety of forums, i.e., summarize and synthesize key findings
* Experience in assisting with operational support and complex problem solving requirements
* Experience with analyzing business requirements and develop applications that meet specifications and deadlines
* Experience managing critical issues and with escalation procedures to resolve project, design, and/or production issues
* Ability to lead and/or participate in cross functional teams both inside and outside of the Lynch School
* Experience developing high quality solutions to problems, solutions that are thorough, practical, and consistent with best practices and organizational objectives
* Excellent computer skills (Oracle Application Express, SQL, FileMaker Pro, SPSS, Microsoft Office suite, business intelligence tool such as COGNOS and Crystal Reports, and technical tools such as TOAD)
* Familiarity with Boston College systems is preferred
* Occasional evening or weekend work
