Pilot Operations Engineer
General Summary
GTI Energy, a leading research and development organization serving energy markets, is seeking an Engineer to support pilot and demonstration scale plants utilizing aerospace technologies. As part of our Energy Supply and Conversion, Pilot Operations team you will support the application and development of advanced conversion technologies, including identification of opportunities, through design, construction and operation of pilot and demonstration scale plants. The immediate need for this position is to support design, construction, and operation of pilot scale experiments in the Des Plaines office.

Work Location
The position will be based in the Chicagoland area at the GTI Energy Headquarters. We offer a hybrid/core work week, where employees are remote Mondays and Fridays, and required to be on-site Tuesday through Thursday.
Travel Requirements
The position will require travel including but not limited to Alabama, Wyoming, Canada, and China.
Primary Responsibilities
• Works as a project engineer under close supervision.
• Assignments typically are routine and designed to develop professional work, knowledge, and abilities
• Strong communication skills and knowledge of safety rules and regulations
• Close interaction and working relationship with Technician staff
• Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
• Familiarity with gasification, methane reforming, electrical power generation, membrane separations processes
• Ability to create Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
• Familiarity with ASME standards for boiler, pressure vessel and piping design
• Familiarity with chemical process analysis tools (preferably ASPEN PLUS)
• Ability to generate Equipment Specifications and Instrument Data Sheets.
• Ability to develop control system truth tables/logic diagrams
• Ability to generate operating procedures
• Familiarity with HAZOP review methodology and other plant safety assessments
• Technical ability to interpret test results and incorporate them into analysis methodologies
• Ability to communicate well both orally and in writing, and work effectively as a team/project member
Education and Experience
• B.S. degree with 7+ years of relevant work experience or M.S./Ph.D. with 5+ years of experience
