Job Summary:This individual is employed by the University and reports to the Simulation Director. The Undergraduate Coordinator is responsible for supervision of the Simmons University SON Simulation Center under the direction of the Simulation Director. The Coordinator will plan, create, coordinate/teach, evaluate and conduct simulation experiences for nursing students, in collaboration with the Director and nursing faculty, designed to convey content knowledge and ensure skill building to prepare the nursing student to practice in all levels of care. This person will also train and mentor faculty on evidence-based and current practices for simulation and work towards and maintain Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) (or similar) accreditation for the simulation laboratory. The coordinator will work with the Simulation Director to ensure that the needs of current and prospective students are aligned with the overall mission of the College and the standards of the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The Coordinator will serve as a specialist in simulation-based education.
Mentors and supports nursing faculty in their role in the Simulation Center.
Develop simulation scenarios for best practice and evidence-based practice, including integration of QSEN competencies, CHSE/CHSOS certification practices and SBAR.
Works with the Simulation Technologist and Technician to assure preparation of the overall simulation environment and all supporting equipment/supplies, moulage and documentation (charts, orders, meds, etc.) for the entire student experience.
Ensure simulation curriculum congruence with term and course learning objectives.
Ensures the reset of lab spaces post-simulation to ensure optimal functioning of lab space and equipment.
Collaboratively operates simulation mannequins, clinical equipment, and computer software/hardware with the Simulation Technologist and Technician.
Maintains knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to simulator functions.
Maintains knowledge of audio/video equipment and software for recording, duplication, mixing and editing.
Conducts faculty and staff training on the use of simulators/simulation to include training and mentoring in developing scenarios, facilitation of simulation, and how to correctly facilitate debriefing with students based on best practice and simulation accreditation standards.
Supervises the inventory of supplies and equipment and conducts routine inventory updates and communicates needs to the Director.
Develops, administers, and evaluates effective assessment tools utilized before, during, and after the simulation experience. Teach and evaluate students as needed and in support of faculty using best evidence-based simulation strategies and tools.
Plans and coordinates simulations for interprofessional learning experiences across the college.
Works collaboratively with faculty to ensure coordination and to eliminate redundancy in simulation learning experiences.
Maintains proficiency in existing and emerging trends in the use of simulation and virtual reality in healthcare education, including theory, design, and implementation through networking, literature review, evaluating new methods, and material and professional development opportunities.
Monitor and maintain academic policies within the SON and specific to the simulation program, in collaboration with the Director.
May participate in simulation related educational research, analyze data, and contribute to publications.
Reviews, evaluates, and recommends simulation offerings in collaboration with the Simulation Director, Associate Dean, SON chair, program directors, and faculty.
Oversee adherence to professional standards and best practices, in consultation with the SON Chair, Simulation Director, program directors, and faculty.
Participate in the SON accreditation and/or board approval activities.
Participate in undergraduate evaluation plans in collaboration with the Simulation Director, SON Chair, Program Directors, and Operations team.
Implements policies, procedures, and protocols consistent with the mission, goals, and objectives of the Center and the SON, supports strategic decision making, and is consistent with safe and effective operations.
Oversees the use and operations of the Simulation center resources, including simulation and lab space, equipment, and personnel, in collaboration with the Director.
Develops staffing and scheduling models to optimize utilization of simulation assets in collaboration with the Director.
Develops and maintains the student simulation schedule in collaboration with SON faculty input.
Provides leadership with technology innovation and applications with patient simulation systems and support technology.
College Management Responsibilities, Including Student-Facing
Serves as a resource to liaise with Student Affairs, Accessibility Services, Office of Advising, Career Education Center, faculty, and students.
Assists faculty leaders with complex student issues.
Participates in the College-wide strategic planning as well as that of the Simulation Center.
Participates in the development of strong campus and community partnerships.
Provides visionary leadership with the simulation team for the simulation program and grant funded educational initiatives and partnerships.
Participates (with Simulation Director, Dean, Associate Dean, SON Chair, and faculty leaders) in recruitment and admissions of students as requested.
Faculty Management Role
Coordinates the simulation center faculty & staff scheduling processes.
Participate in the simulation faculty & staff review processes as requested by the Simulation Director.
Work with the academic leadership team in relation to sensitive faculty dismissal processes when necessary.
Provide leadership and promote professional simulation development within the faculty.
This position carries simulation teaching responsibilities. The Coordinator will have teaching responsibilities spread throughout the 12 month period as determined by the Associate Dean, Simulation Director, and SON Chair, based on the program needs.
Serve as a communication link in conjunction with the Simulation Director and Associate Dean between the SON, College, University, 2U, and other external constituents including but not limited to employers, alumni, donors, clinical partners, and professional associations.
Other responsibilities as determined by the Simulation Director, SON Chair, Associate Dean, or Dean.
Master's degree in Nursing & minimum of 5 years of clinical patient experience.
Terminal degree (PhD, DNP, DNSc) preferred
A demonstrated track record of success in leading and building educational projects or programs
2 years of direct job-related experience such as experience in program coordination, simulation development, virtual simulation scenario development and interprofessional simulation practice experience
Preferred Certication/Licensing: Certied Health Simulation Educator (CHSE).

The Simulation Coordinator is a 12-Month Faculty Role with Administrative responsibilities. This is a Boston based on campus position.
