Our IT team has 4 different departments: Information Security, IT Service Delivery, Business Enabling Systems, and IT Commerce & Customer Engagement.

IT DIRECTOR – DIGITAL ENGINEERING (eCommerce and Omnichannel)
PetSmart is accelerating its Digital transformation journey and is looking for a seasoned, retail-focused Engineering leader who can grow our team, mature our processes, contribute to strategy, and deliver value to our customers through new capabilities and experiences. PetSmart is at a key inflection point in our eCommerce and Omnichannel maturity and we’re looking for a leader who is excited by the opportunity to chart and enact our vision for the future.
In this role, you will lead a sizable team responsible for the architecture, development, quality and operations of all facets of our customer-facing Digital Properties (PetSmart.com, our Services Booking website, mobile app, etc.) and omni-capabilities. You will also be a key contributor to unifying our Enterprise technology strategy with business objectives.
Responsibilities
Lead the Engineering, Solution Architecture, Quality Assurance, and Operations functions of our customer-facing Digital business
Partner with product teams and business stakeholders to unify technology strategy with business objectives
Partner across IT to facilitate Enterprise IT roadmaps and standards
Contribute to the technical discovery and planning for new projects
Propose and enact technical solutions set across delivery team and in coordination with IT Strategy
Grow and mature a highly efficient, productive, high-quality engineering organization that consistently delivers on time
Propose and enact innovative ideas to improve velocity, quality, and enable new capabilities aligned with our strategic direction
Establish an Operations capability that both addresses incidents quickly as they arise and prevents issues at the forefront through building for resilience (currently a nascent, vendor-driven capability we expect to bring in-house)
Mature our QA processes to focus on automation over manual testing
Anticipate risks and issues and work to resolve roadblocks
Evaluate potential partner relationships
Identify and manage key systems metrics used to advise technical direction
Develop a high-performing team by attracting and retaining a talented, diverse, high performing team of managers, engineers and architects
Coach, counsel, and mentor associates on their performance
Plan and manage team capacity through effective resource planning and tracking
Manage vendor partnerships by establishing effective working relationships with vendors
Ensure vendors provide appropriate talent and attention on projects
Influence vendor software and new capability roadmaps
Collaborate with other IT and functional leaders across the appropriate business areas
Constantly pursue and learn industry leading/innovative engineering best practices/tools
Qualifications
5+ years’ experience in leading successful IT engineering teams
10+ years’ experience in implementing systems and business capabilities
10+ years’ experience in application integration, solution design and support
Significant experience in an eCommerce (preferably omnichannel) space and a thorough understanding of related technology and patterns (ecommerce platforms, order management, content management, inventory, payments, Marketing technology, etc.)
Experience with web and mobile client-side technology (ReactJS, NextJS, iOS, Android, React Native, etc.)
Salesforce Commerce Cloud experience, a plus
Have built and delivered large scale enterprise systems/products and have extensive hands-on experience
Experience building systems as service-oriented architecture and/or microservices architecture
Experience with Automation, Continuous delivery, and Continuous integration pipelines
Experience with product team structure and Agile delivery, SAFe preferred
Experience developing and managing budgets
Deep Business, Technology, Process, and Change Management skills
Ability to analyze and evaluate complex business, system & process opportunities
