Director, The Fund for African American Wealth
Gary Community Investments is looking to launch a pioneering new effort aimed at bridging the African-American racial wealth gap in Colorado. Similar to the rest of the US, It is estimated that the wealth of a median black family in the state is roughly 1/13th of that of a median white family today.
The organization is in the early stages of designing and piloting an innovative platform aimed at deploying innovative capital solutions that can accelerate wealth creation among African American families in the Denver metro area. The initial focus of this effort is to launch a investment fund focused on catalyzing African American homeownership, which continues to be one of the most effective ways for families to build intergenerational wealth.
We are looking for an entrepreneurial individual with deep roots in the black community, and with professional experience in community banking, mortgage lending, and/or financial services to help lead this effort. The Director will oversee a portfolio of efforts aimed at addressing the racial wealth gap through, while focusing initially on the launch and operation of the homeownership fund. The position is based in Denver, Colorado.
Help lead the effort to launch and implement the African American Homeownership Fund, a $5M facility that would provide down-payment support to prospective homebuyers through a shared equity approach.
Design and implement broader efforts that deploy innovative capital tools addressing other barriers that limit the ability of African American families in their journey towards financial stability and wealth building.
Qualifications & Requirements 5 years of experience in banking, financial services or any related areas. Experience in mortgage lending would be an asset
Strong understanding and experience of what it takes to build and grow successful businesses
Proven track record in raising private or philanthropic capital
Prior entrepreneurial experience would be a plus. We are looking for someone with a passion and excitement to launch and lead a new initiative, and a relentless commitment to work towards this goal
Ability to lay out a clear and compelling vision and successfully execute against a vision.
Ability to be tremendously adaptable and devise a path forward in situations with limited clarity.
Deep ties to the African American community (in Colorado or nationally) and an intimate understanding of the racial inequities/discrimination that has resulted in the widening racial wealth gap
