We are seeking an Automation Controls Engineer to support our three U.S. plants in Ashland, VA, Nederland, TX and Eldridge IA. This role must live and work in one of these locations and will travel as needed to the others.
About This Role
This is a great opportunity to get in on the beginning of our journey to automate our currently manual operations! We have selected equipment and partners and are just starting the network design and user requirement specification steps.
The Controls Engineer will develop and coordinate the processing of specialty chemicals production process. Works closely with the Quality and Production Teams to specify, clarify, manage and engineer the most efficient methods of manufacturing. Will be involved with design aspects of manufacturing. Implements Kaizen (Lean manufacturing) methodology into processes. Recommends and plans final processes, methods and sequences of manufacturing operations.
Primary contact for sustaining controls and automation for new and existing automation including working with process owners on continuous improvement, coaching process mechanics through troubleshooting
Engage with a variety of stakeholders including EHS, Procurement, R&D, Maintenance, DBS and Operations personnel to lead needed capital through the entire process from justification to commissioning and qualification
Develop project plans to meet the timelines of the business
Use design controls software
Source new vendors and work with current vendors to clarify requirements and set expectations to be down selected in the bid process for new equipment. Develop and use comparative assessments tools to aid the down selection process
Use current floor layouts and new asset specifications to work with stakeholders to optimize the asset within the context of the Manufacturing area
Train end users on new tools and technology both in person and virtually
Bachelors degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering with a strong knowledge of automation and controls or equivalent.
In-depth experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) is required, Allen-Bradley platform preferred.
Logix-based systems with distributed I/O, machine-level HMI, VFDs, and servos.
Ignition / Inductive / Sepasoft knowledge.
Experience with Ignition or other SCADA applications.
Networking experience with Ethernet, Profibus, Modbus, ASCII, RS-232, and RS-485 communications.
Working knowledge of safety systems and hazardous environments.
Knowledge or experience with AC/DC power distribution, control/pneumatic; cabinet designs and layouts, to include electrical schematics.
Familiarity with Pressure, Vacuum, Temperature, Level, Flow and Weight Instrumentation
