Job Description


The Head of Player Health Administration will lead and supervise the day-today operations and all related medical services and initiatives for the MLS Medical Operations department. The Key responsibility of this role is to provide strong leadership to the department and Chief Medical Officer while also providing administrative support to an established, high-potential team.


  • Oversee the policies and procedures of the department and incorporate changes where necessary, based on the needs of the business to support the health and safety of professional soccer players
  • Monitor and enforce department standards through club compliance
  • Manage and assist with the development of the strategic plan and associated budget to support the department’s mission
  • Lead consultant committees and oversee project research and management
  • Apply knowledge of health-related legislative issues, regulations, and worker’s compensation to ensure compliance
  • Work with other sports medicine consultants (including scientific and medical experts and researchers) to identify best practices and insights
  • Work with external organizations and governing bodies (both US based and international) to identify best practices and insights
  • Build and manage department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Manage hiring and onboarding process by interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training employees
  • Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and managing the Performance Management process:
    • Plan, monitor, and review performance;
    • Coach and counsel employees;
    • Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce Company policies
    • Develop personal growth opportunities for employees
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related field Healthcare certification or degree (Athletic Trainer or Physical Therapist) and/or
  • 12+ years within a dynamic healthcare system
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership administrative role in a high-level sporting association, and/or professional sports
  • Demonstrated excellence as a health administration professional
  • Experience managing healthcare operations, budgets and staffing
  • Experience providing medical care for athletes
  • Experience with electronic medical records, licensing and workman’s compensation
  • Exhibits leadership and professionalism in all aspects of duties and is service-oriented
  • Confidence to present verbal and written presentations and briefings to both internal and external key stakeholders
  • Superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail
  • High-level of commitment to a quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays 

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of the Spanish language (business proficiency)
  • Knowledge of the sport of soccer
