Job Description
Publishing Operations Assistant
W.W. Norton & Company is seeking a Publishing Operations Assistant for its Trade Department. The assistant will work with the Vice President of Operations and Publishing Manager, Norton Trade Paperbacks on critical publishing processes, including but not limited to interdepartmental coordination, metadata management, and research. The ideal candidate can comfortably move between highly accurate detail work and an appreciation of the big picture.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Develop comprehensive understanding of entire publishing process.
• Support Vice President of Operations and Publishing Manager in list planning.
• Oversee creation of seasonal catalogs.
• Maintain title metadata for all trade imprints.
• Coordinate information and improve processes across various departments and individuals including but not limited to: metadata, marketing, production, publicity, editorial, subsidiary rights, IT and business departments.
• Act as a resource to the trade department on best practices and use of internal systems.
• Perform market research and generate internal sales reporting.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Extreme attention to detail.
• A sharp proofreading eye.
• Expertise in excel and Microsoft Office.
• Basic familiarity with databases.
• Confidence and experience working in data management systems preferred.
• Prompt and transparent communication.
• Ability to work with colleagues across multiple departments.
• Excellent time management and organization skills.
• Proactive problem solving.
• Willingness to work on strict deadlines.
• Confidence in balancing priorities.
• Marketing and market research experience is preferred but not required.
• Copyediting skills are preferred but not required.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience.
• Must be able to work full business hours in our New York office.
• Employment eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
