Associate Middleware Systems Administrator

Job Description

The focus for this position will be on supporting the identity access management (IAM) system. The IAM system is exceptionally critical, as it is the foundation for the University's security architecture. This system maintains users' identity information and controls user access to all University systems. This includes on-premise applications like the Human Resources system and the Financials system, as well as cloud-based services like Canvas and the Library. The IAM system is a very large and complex system with several components. Two of the most visible components are the LDAP directories and the Shibboleth identity providers. LDAP is a critical service that is used to control access to the University's most important applications.

Duties include maintaining industry standards, applying security patches and upgrades to all components of the University's identity access management system. This position is also responsible for integrating new applications with our enterprise access management systems and maintaining existing integrations.

Day-to-day activities will include:
-Configure applications to work with enterprise load balancers, Single Sign-On (SSO) servers (SAML and oAuth preferred), network equipment and computer security.
- Configure application server components and the network protocols all in a highly available clustered environment (especially HTTP, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL),Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directories, Java Message Service (JMS) -Messaging, and Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) Connection Pooling).
- Manage and configure applications servers that encompass configuration modifications to support new applications that include setting up new JMS/MQ resources, database resources and lightweight directory access protocol (LDAP) resources.
- Manage and configure enterprise service bus(ESB).
- Responsible for performance monitoring and optimization of individual components as well as the entire request path from load balancer through the database.
- Install/renew of Secure Sockets License (SSL) certificates.
- Use industry standard build and deployment to manage deployments as needed.
- Perform capacity planning for application servers and recommend future system requirements.
- Research, analyzes and recommends new technology solutions and standards related to the application servers.
- Adopt industry best practices and apply them to Boston College's application Servers.
- Plan patches and upgrades. Follow SAS 115 requirements and audit procedures.

Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following titles and hiring ranges:

Associate Middleware Systems Administrator (up to 74K):
1 -2 years of experience working with middleware to include installation,
configuration, and administration as well as deployment experience.

Middleware Systems Administrator (up to 90K):
3-5 years of experience working with middleware to include installation,
configuration, and administration as well as deployment experience.

Senior Middleware Systems Administrator (up to 110k):
5+ years of experience working with middleware to include installation,
