Regional Program Director, Athletics Advancement

The Regional Director Athletics Advancement represents the University of Notre Dame with managing a portfolio of Leadership prospects with Athletics affiliation. This involves working in partnership with athletics administrators and coaches and Development Department colleagues to develop and execute identification, cultivation, stewardship and solicitation strategies that join together the philanthropic interests of donors with the priorities and needs of the Athletics Department, structuring gifts appropriately to each benefactor. Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward!
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identification, cultivation and solicitation that joins together the philanthropic interests of donors with the priorities and athletics needs of the University. Collaborate with the Director of Athletics Advancement to execute strategic plan for assigned region and align individual target plan with divisional goals.

  • Attend a significant number of regional and campus events as a representative of the University. Travel (approximately 50% of work time) as well as evening and weekend activity is routine.

  • Develop significant long-term relationships with current and potential future benefactors whose resources will be integral to supporting the athletics mission of Notre Dame. Establish and maintain a rapport with each benefactor and encourage, support and sustain the benefactor's philanthropic relationship with Notre Dame.

  • Work collaboratively with the Department of Athletics to serve as a subject matter expert with Field Fundraisers, Coaches, and Sport Administrators. Promote teamwork within the region and across the Development Department and work as a true partner with peers to provide match donor vision with the needs to the University.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree
  • 5 to 6 years of experience
  • 5-6 years of demonstrated success in cultivating and soliciting leadership level gifts, or a demonstrated track record of success at the highest level of corporate sales, including interaction with CEO level benefactors or customers.
The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position include:
  • Interpersonal and communication skills incumbent must be comfortable and effective in dealing with high net worth individuals.
  • Ability to easily develop rapport and establish networks of leadership level benefactors.
  • Superb oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective at collegial working relationships.
  • The ability to transform and manage a regional territory engaged in selling a complex product requiring direct oversight throughout a long sales/project management cycle.
  • Strategic planning and an ability to set priorities and map direction on concurrent fronts.
  • Management of a complex benefit gift/sales project from concept to execution; time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to be forward-thinking and to create long-term strategic relationships for maximum gifts rather than one-time transactions.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn relevant tax and estate law and planned giving mechanisms.
