The Veterans Health Administration is America’s largest integrated health care system, providing care at 1,293 health care facilities, including 171 medical centers and 1,112 outpatient sites of care of varying complexity (VHA outpatient clinics), serving 9 million enrolled Veterans each year.
VHA Leadership
The Acting Under Secretary for Health directs a health care system with an annual budget of approximately $68 billion, overseeing the delivery of care to more than 9 million enrolled Veterans. VA, the nation's largest health care system, employs more than 367,200 full time health care professionals and support staff at 1,293 health care facilities, including 171 VA Medical Centers and 1,112 outpatient sites of care of varying complexity (VHA outpatient clinics).
VHA is the nation's largest provider of graduate medical education and a major contributor to medical and scientific research. More than 46,000 active volunteers, 120,000 health professions trainees, and nearly 16,000 affiliated medical faculty are also an integral part of the VHA community.
