The Port Authority‘s Police Force was established in 1928 and is currently made up of nearly 1,600 uniformed, armed law enforcement officers with jurisdiction in both New York and New Jersey. We protect a region and have law enforcement jurisdiction in two states. Our focus is transportation security unlike that of any other police force in the country. The duties of Port Authority Police include criminal investigation, emergency response, K-9 security patrol, anti-terrorism, commercial vehicle inspections, directed security patrols and aircraft rescue and firefighting, if assigned to the ARFF cadre.
