Community Health Resources

ABOUT CHR
Community Health Resources (CHR) is the most comprehensive, nonprofit behavioral healthcare provider in Connecticut, offering a broad range of services for people of all ages whose lives have been touched by depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, trauma, homelessness, and more.

Founded in 1966, CHR has grown through the years to meet the needs of the communities we serve. Today, programs range from outpatient, intensive outpatient, and school-based therapy to highly intensive community-based and residential mental health and substance use treatment programs. We are licensed by the state and accredited both by The Joint Commission and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care, reflecting our work to provide life-saving care for opioid use disorders into CT prisons and jails.

Of note, CHR was the first nonprofit in CT to meet all the rigorous federal criteria as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) and has been named among the Top Workplaces in CT for 10 years straight!

The lifeblood of CHR’s excellence is our workforce of more than 800 professionals, including therapists, licensed clinical social workers, case managers, psychiatrists, administrators, and more.

OUR DE&I JOURNEY
CHR continues its now three-year, long-term journey that includes ongoing, interactive trainings for all staff, regular diversity celebrations across the agency, and several new Employee Resource Groups designed to foster allyship and support. Central to these efforts is an employee-led Action for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (AFEDI) Council which provides oversight for the DE&I work, along with our Chief Diversity Officer and DE&I Director.

CHR is currently implementing a DE&I Roadmap, developed in partnership with the AFEDI Council, that is one of the top priorities of CHR’s systemwide strategic plan. The road map articulates steps to embed DE&I in everything we do and achieve buy-in and respect for DE&I across the agency and with clients, in an environment of respect, openness, and collaboration.

A recent survey conducted among CHR staff found that nearly 90% of employees reported that they have a sense of belonging at CHR; believe that diverse people can rise to the most senior levels; and believe that they have a fair opportunity to share ideas within the agency.

Importantly, CHR’s leadership and Board of Directors have demonstrated support and commitment to the ongoing DE&I journey, every step of the way.
