Overview

The neuropsychologist will participate in the generation and coordination of research activities, inclusive of local and multi-site grant funded initiatives such as TBI Model Systems across cognitive rehabilitation, brain trauma and extended recovery units for Hackensack Meridian Health JFK University Medical Center under the  supervision of the Medical Director and the Director of Neuropsychology. Currently, grant funded studies include but are not limited to improving longitudinal assessment and tracking of activity limitations in TBI and comparative analysis of treatment approaches to TBI across disciplines. The Senior Research Associate will play a critical role in participating in and overseeing the activities of research personnel, post doctoral students and predoctoral interns in accordance with timelines of activities as they relate to grant funded studies (50%). 

The Neuropsychologist will additionally provide direct clinical acute inpatient or outpatient services through neuropsychological evaluation, rehabilitation, and other  psychological procedures as appropriate; provide consultation to medical and therapy staff; oversee clinical patient care and provide direction to multidisciplinary team as appropriate; maintain professional communications and relationships (50%).

Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate scientific research consistent with the mission and goals of the Center for Brain Injuries. The incumbent shall ensure that research is conducted in a safe, ethical and consistent manner with the protocols established. The incumbent will work to ensure that inventories of all supplies and protocols are properly maintained and stored. The incumbent will further ensure that patient information and data are entered into a database and stored according to IRB and research standards. 
  2. Organize research activities and manage timelines and deadlines to include quarterly and annual reporting for grant activities.
  3. Attend and provide status updates for all grant related multi-site meetings
  4. Participate in the development of new research proposals and assist in applying for funding of grants to federal, state, and local government agencies and to appropriate private charitable Foundations.
  5. Act as liaison between administrative, clinical and finance personnel by ensuring timely collection of team hours, distribution of participant gift cards, and transfer of invoices and receipts to the administrative and finance directors
  6. Perform data collection, oversee data entry and participate in data analysis and interpretation of results with PI and Co-PI.
  7. Be involved in manuscript preparation and publication of research work in reputable peer-reviewed  journals. 
  8. Present research work at national scientific conferences. 
  9. Participate in the educational mission of the department through mentorship activities.
  10. Demonstrate proficiency with appropriate range of neuropsychological assessment procedures;  evaluate participants in accordance with departmental policies and procedures; ensures accuracy of  administration, scoring and interpretation; interprets findings according to accepted principles' selects  appropriate tests; formulates diagnostic and prognostic impressions supported by findings; exhibits  knowledge of relevant diagnoses; formulates treatment recommendations based on relevant findings;  provides effective clinical feedback. 
  11. Develop treatment plans with appropriate objectives and methods; effectively implements, monitors  and revises treatment objectives and methods; provides direct clinical interventions (individual and group) as appropriate; synthesizes multidisciplinary findings and provides effective direction to therapists;  formulates and monitors cross-discipline goals and treatment methods; demonstrates knowledge of  evidence-based interventions and their clinical application 
  12. Maintain accurate records and documentation; submits accurate and timely billing statements and  records; manages priorities effectively; participates in Performance Improvement, Utilization Review and  other professional activities in accordance with goals of the department; maintains relevant NJ Licensure;  demonstrates awareness and compliance with ethical issues and regulations relevant to practice 
  13. Provide effective consultation to clinical staff based on assessment results and interpretations;  provides effective consultation to referring physicians and other professionals involved in patient's care;  provides effective consultation and education to patient family members and significant others 
  14. Communicate effectively with professionals through verbal and written reports; effectively  communicates evaluation findings and recommendations to patients and families; provides written evaluation and treatment reports within acceptable time frames.
  15. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  16. Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

  1. Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Neuropsychology or related field; NJ License or eligibility required; if  license eligible, must be licensed within 6 months of hire 
  2. Research/publication experience
  3. Minimum 2 years clinical experience in relevant area of practice, which may be satisfied through  residency training 
  4. Proficiency in neuropsychological assessment required; other clinical skills may be required for certain  positions 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 

  1. Completion of APPCN Residency. 
  2. Local or multi-site grant submission and oversite experience

Licenses and Certifications Required: 

  1. Psychologist License.
  2. Neuropsychology/Rehabilitation Psychology Board Certification eligibility
