Job Description

For Visa to deliver on the vision of the best way to pay and be paid for everyone, everywhere, the Operations & Infrastructure (O&I) group must provide best-in-class infrastructure services that are secure, scalable, continuously available, and run on software-defined infrastructures. The O&I group offers an exciting opportunity to work on latest technologies where the industry is going through major innovations.
This is an exciting opportunity to engineer and develop best in class Database as a Service (DBaaS) software. You will also have opportunity to enhance Open Source Database products. The role is part of Platform as a Service (PaaS) organization under O&I group. Your primary responsibilities will include

1.    Work independently, driving projects end to end and provide guidance to junior developers
2.    Design, develop and maintain software to manage provisioning, runtime and life-cycle of shared database platform, ensuring database reliability, availability, scalability, manageability and observability.
3.    Develop automation for database lifecycle management and database self-service for application users and expose through GUI, API and CLI.
4.    Build tools to report on status of operations and performance of DBaaS platform
5.    Build automated tests and enable continuous delivery of the platform components
6.    Collaborate with team members in design reviews, development, and code reviews
7.    Identify opportunities for future enhancements and refinements to standards, best practices, and development methodologies.
8.    Create documentation and procedures for development, deployment, and maintenance
9.    Foster business partnerships, develop trust with partners and stakeholders, understand business needs particularly within the context of Visa's core business, and seek to enable their business success
10.    Optional: Enhance and support code of Open Source Database products
a.    Enhance Open Source Database products as and when needed to meet Visa’s requirement
b.    Troubleshoot and debug code issues as reported by Database Engineers/DBA’s and develop bug fix.
c.    For one or more Open Source DB products, liaise with community to contribute on bug fixes and enhancements

In addition, you will have opportunity to work with highly skilled Database Engineers and gain deeper understanding of multiple Relational and NoSQL database technologies and complete lifecycle management of databases.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• 7 or more years of software engineering and development experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD
• Full stack developer with experience of building REST based web services & web applications using Java and Spring framework

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor or Master Degree in Computer Science or related field
• 8-12 years of full-stack software development experience primarily with Java (v1.8+).
• Nice to have – Experience with GO, C, C++.
• Good experience with Java EE and Spring framework, Microservices, REST API’s
• Good experience with JavaScript frameworks Angular (v8+), Node.js.
• Any past experience developing DBaaS or Data Access Layer (DAL) is a plus.
• Any past experience of contribution to any Open Source DB product is a plus.
• Good understanding of one or more relational and NoSQL database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, DB2, Cassandra, MongoDB, Redis, Couchbase.
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline and code versioning tools such as Git
• Nice to have – Knowledge of Database High Availability, Replication, Connection Pooling, Load balancing, DB Proxy.
• Working knowledge on UNIX/Linux OS and understanding of network, storage, tiered application environments and security.
• Ability to work well as a team and as an individual with minimal supervision
