The statistics of black women in computer technology is shockingly very LOW and this is TRAGIC. I'm convinced black women are not even aware of what a computer administrator or database administrator can earn a year! Most companies don't require a computer science degree either.. The majority of companies are looking for people with experience. So here are some tips on getting this experience.
1.) look online and find out if Microsoft, Oracle or any other major computer company has a satellite location in your area.
2.) Browse all the career websites and type in these key words: computer admin, System admin, and database admin or computer security.
3.) get dressed and walk into several computers companies HR department and tell them you are willing to volunteer or assist a senior system admin to gain the experience needed to move up in this field. Don't get discouraged if one company tells you no because one will eventually tell you yes.
4.) If the HR manager asks you why you are applying, tell the HR manager that more women need to be in the computer technology industry and that woman is YOU.
Once you gain a couple years of system admin/security or database admin/security experience you can get a job at almost any company making close to 100,000 or more a year, because most company’s system and database is their backbone. I promise you will never regret doing this.
