Mission: Hire a new Director of Employment Center (8524 hits)


Areas of Responsibility

The Brooklyn Navy Yard is seeking an empathic, data-driven Director to lead the Employment Center toward its vision of connecting the local community to the economic opportunities happening on and surrounding the Yard.

For over 15 years, the BNYDC Employment Center has connected New Yorkers, especially local residents, to the job opportunities available within businesses on and around the Yard. The Employment Center staff maintains close relationships with this network of employers, and identifies, pre-screens, and places qualified job seekers in various types of employment. Additionally, the Employment Center staff maintains relationships with training partners to refer job seekers for additional preparation if needed. In the next year, the new Director’s mission is to expand the number of Yard businesses being served by the Employment Center, increase the hiring of local job seekers, and achieve high satisfaction rates from participating businesses and job seekers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Management

• Lead the Employment Center team to achieve defined targets for employer placement requests, job seeker outreach, job seeker placement, and job seeker retention.
• Recruit and retain a vision-aligned, high performance staff.
• Oversee all staff members’ performance, including communicating high expectations and ensuring all staff members have the resources and support to excel in their roles.
• Oversee ongoing performance assessments and ensure staff have development opportunities as needed.
• Develop and maintain a team culture that enables the achievement of the Employment Center’s vision and goals.

Program Management

• Work with organizational leadership to set goals for job placement, training, and employer and job-seeker outreach.
• Develop and implement programmatic strategies and plans to achieve placement, training, and outreach goals.
• Establish effective data-driven procedures to regularly track, monitor, and evaluate the Employment Center’s, objectives and grant requirements.
• Establish effective mechanisms to regularly report on the Employment Center’s objectives, both internally and externally to the BNYDC board and funders.
• Maintain streamlined process to communicate with employers, before, during, and after fulfilling job placement requests.
• Monitor and maintain the Employment Center budget and financial processes.
• Keep updated on pertinent legislation, regulations, incentive programs, and developments that could affect operations and disseminate information to appropriate personnel.


Employer and Community Partner Network

• Act as the public face of the Employment Center, including representing BNYDC at public events and interfacing with community leaders and elected officials.
• Develop and maintain relationships with businesses on and off the Brooklyn Navy Yard, to identify placement and training opportunities.
• Develop and manage relationships with community partners to increase the visibility of the Employment Center and job opportunities. This includes higher education institutions, NYCHA, workforce development organizations, BIDs, and other local CBOs.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with job training partner(s) including Brooklyn Workforce Innovations and Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Commitment and alignment to the vision of the Employment Center and BNYDC, and a dual passion for connecting job seekers to economic opportunity, and providing businesses they talent they need.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated in the ability to build relationships with a diverse set of employers, job seekers, funders, and partners.
• Successful experience in developing and managing workforce development programs, and ideally managing a network of employers.
• Ability to create and maintain data tracking and organizational processes and systems, and effectively use data analysis to make changes to operations.
• An orientation toward constant iteration and improvement
